Achievement and School Learning Plan

Measures of Student Achievement and Success

Our school follows the guidelines set out in the OCDSB Policy and Procedures for Student Evaluation, available on the Board’s website.

Ongoing classroom assessment and evaluation form the backbone of our student evaluation policy.

Continuous assessment and evaluation tools and practices include observation, student self-evaluation, teacher/student interviews, peer and group evaluation, written and oral tests, rubrics, checklists, inventories, questionnaires, participation charts, and parental input during interview sessions.

Students are given many opportunities to demonstrate learning through performances, including public speaking, drama and music productions, and school concerts.

Students from Grades One to Three are assessed for reading proficiency using La trousse d’évaluation en lecture GB+. Students from Grades Four to Six are assessed for reading proficiency using CASI. All students in grade 3 and 6 take part in the Provincial EQAO testing. Results from each assessment tool are used to evaluate individual student success as well as overall school success. Results are used to develop our School Improvement Plan to enhance student learning.

School Learning Plans and Initiatives

Along with the analysis of EQAO results, we consider report card marks, daily observations of student performance, and a variety of demographic factors when formulating School Learning Plans and Initiatives. The input of staff and parents is crucial in this process.

The School Learning Plan for the beginning of 2017/2018 focuses on Numeracy. One goal to achieve success in this area is to engage students in communicating their thinking clearly. In particular, they will focus on creative, innovative, critical thinking and problem solving. Student achievement will be followed closely with on-going assessment and feedback. Technology is integrated into our programs to improve the level of skill among staff and students.

We continue to increase our selection of children’s literature for our entire student body with the financial assistance of our dedicated School Council. Balanced Literacy is implemented throughout the Primary and Junior divisions. Parent and community volunteers greatly support our reading initiatives.

Our School Parent Council has assisted us in the purchase of equipment, hands-on materials and resources to enhance our academic programs. Furthermore, we are engaging our School Parent Council to provide enriching arts experiences and activities for our children.

• Investment in professional growth opportunities focused on OCDSB’s Literacy and Math initiatives
